FROM GOGGLES TO SUNGLASSES

It was a fabulous day here in the Perthshire mountains. A big contrast to yesterdays conditions as the sun shone and blue skies most of the day with only a slight breeze on the tops. David, Tim & Gordon were on their second day of winter skills training. We covered navigation, avalanche awareness and walking on steep ground. We walked up direct from my house as the Lawers road is still icy down to low levels and went into the Cam Chreag area on Tarmachan. All the gullies are well banked with windslab and some steep, corniced exits. The snowpack is consolidating and we enjoyed lots of areas of hard snow. Ridges are windblown and have excellent hard snow. Lots of folk out on the hillstoday, but we only saw them from a distance from our route on to the South ridge of Meall Garbh's summit.
