One of those rare days this winter- no wind! Karen and I headed south to The Dromochter hills and the Munro summit of A’Mharchonich. There had been quite a bit of snow put down the day before so it was hard work trail breaking almost from the word go. We had some lovely glimpses over to the big Munros in The Ben Alder Forest as we ploughed our way up to the top. It would have been much easier in snow shoes or skis. In fact we saw a couple of folk out ski touring. Pretty chilly on the summit. It was well below freezing and the easiest walking of the day as we strolled to the summit on icy, wind-scoured ground. Any thoughts of another Munro diminished as the cloud rolled in and time was getting on. Well done to anyone getting round all 4 of the Munro's in this group, which is quite an easy day in summer conditions ( I guided these last October). The snow cover in The Highlands is excellent and the temperature rise forecasted for Sunday should help consolidation and maybe easier walking!
