Loch Vaa is one of those lovely spots in Strathspey full of rare wildlife that is found within the Cairngorms National Park. The Slavonian Grebe is known to frequent this lovely wee loch just north of Aviemore. It's a great bike ride along the Strathspey Way and takes minutes from the house. There was a sprinkling of overnight snow on the mountains this morning and a strong wind so if your not wanting a wintry and windy day up on the hills then a bit of birdwatching and a lovely stroll around the loch is a great alternative. I had the place to myself and although the Slovonian Grebe was absent today I did see loads of other feathered life. Amongst which: Goldeneye, Oystercatcher, Heron, Greylag Geese & Cuckoo. It was lovely sitting in the sunshine and sheltered from the winds amongst the beautiful natural woodland that circles the loch. |We are still forecasted to be getting some warmish weather by the weekend.
