SORRY HENRY, WE ESCAPED YOU

Sunshine and views over Cairn Gorm
The perfect axe arrest, in sun
Steep and soft
More views in the sun
Another bright spell
The locals at Glenmore
Holly is out with me for two days of winter skills. All the hype about storm Henry today made us think twice about our location for snow skills. WE wanted somewhere sheltered, somewhere relatively low and of course snow. Meall a' Bhuachaille yesterday was completely white, today the south side of the hill was completely bare! A sharp rise in temperature overnight and this morning had stripped it. I had an inkling we would find enough snow on the opposite side of the hill. Sure enough, there was a big patch of good snow with depth and steepness. All we needed for a day of skills. The winds were only around 40mph in our area. We had snow showers but plenty of sunny, dry spells too. We could even sit and have a picnic with only a breeze. We covered movement on snow, axe arresting and even managed a bit of cramponing in places. Sorry Henry, you need to try harder to deter us!
