The Monadhliath Munros don't get a lot of praise from Munro baggers.  Featureless plateau and boggy would be most folks memories of these hills. It's a shame because they are attractive in their own way. Big open space, Mountain Hare heaven and quiet. Under winter conditions they come alive a bit more too. Ian was out with me today on a guided trip. He had initially booked this day out with me last year but an injury meant he postponed it. So he was fired up for today and the possibility of some sun and views too. Unfortunately the sun and clear skies first thing this morning didn't last long. After 30 minutes from the car the cloud rolled in and gradually lowered on the mountains. Poor visibility for the rest of the day with some light snow  flurries. Another sub zero temperatures day. We only saw 2 other folk all day. Ian has now racked up over 160 Munros. A tough day trail breaking in soft snow and the map and compass was out a few times. Good banter on the hill and Ian presented me with a bottle of malt at the end in appreciation of moving the date forward 12 months where some more scrupulous companies would have taken his money and not offered alternative dates.
